If you’re a parent, I’m sure you’ve heard it from your child on a Sunday afternoon. “Oh, I forgot. I have homework due tomorrow.” Many times your child needs a bit more information for their homework, but the library is closed on Sunday and holidays. Never fear, we can help. There are a couple of ways to find homework information on our website. Remember the good old World Book Encyclopedia we used as kids? It is available on the research page of the children's section of our website. It is simple to read and has plenty of pictures and videos, making it perfect for the younger student. Or you could try Global Road Warrior where you can find anything you'd want to know about a country and the people who live there. It's the perfect resource to use for your students Cultural Fair project. Another option is Inspire which will allow you to use "Kids Search" for younger students, or "Student Research Center" for older students. You can locate biographies, magazine and newspaper articles, and encyclopedia articles using this source. Each of these homework resources is free and accessible 24/7. You may need your library card barcode and pin number for some of them. Just click HERE to start exploring our online homework help.

The Invention of Hugo Cabret
Brian Selznick may hold the record for the longest children's book ever to win the Caldecott Medal for some time to come and his latest release continues in the same vein. If you've already read about Hugo Cabret and can't wait for the movie, try his new book, Wonderstruck. Below you can watch the book trailer all about it. The library owns several books by Brian Selznick. To celebrate the November 23rd movie release, we are having a Hugo party on November 17 at 6:30 pm. Join us to make a silent movie, sculpt Oreo cookies, and wear black and white. By the way, it's not too late to read The Invention of Hugo Cabret.

Gulls: Why Do They Hang Out at Walmart?
I never noticed seagulls flying anywhere around La Porte as a kid. Nowadays it seems like they are everywhere. I see them in farm fields, parking lots and parks. Basically all kinds of places without water. Being the curious sort, I wondered why this is the case. I came across the answer accidentally while watching the PBS program, Outdoor Elements, which is produced by the St. Joseph County Parks Department. The link will take you to the episode I watched.
If you enjoy watching the birds at your feeder, at the park, or in the parking lot, then you might like to know more about them. The library offers many books that can help you identify species of birds wherever you observe them.
